Rapunzel stared around the store, wide-eyed. She’d never seen so many fascinating, peculiar things. She’d never seen rocks like that, or candles like that, or smelled such strange, interesting smells, or seen so much color in one place. She was overwhelmed in a good way.
She followed his gesture to look at the ceiling, where woven circles with feathers trailing hung from a million tiny hooks. There were all different sizes and colors and types of string. Pascal would love this place.
“Ooooh,” she marveled. “What do they do?”
they catch bad dreams, baby.
-flynn was starting to say when the little frail shopkeeper made his way through the store to them. he was old. really old. flynn wondered if he’d been around since earth’s creation. well, maybe not that long but he was easily a billion.-
you hang them over your bed, my dear princess.
-he said horsely-
it’s like a net…only the good dreams pass though. it catches the bad ones and they vanish in the light of day. the good ones travel down the feathers to you. if you’ve been having nightmares than you should have one of these, my dear.
-he smiled, showing off big crooked teeth as his face wrinkled up like a squished prune.-
What a cute old man! She gave a little curtsey, even though she’d been scolded about that recently (“No, Princess, they bow to you.”) “Do you make them? That’s so interesting! I wish I knew how to do magic like that!”
She grinned at Eugene. “Will you help me pick one out? It’s going to be going over your bed, too, afterall. What colors do you like?”
-flynn thought it was funny that the old guy recognized punz but he didn’t kiss ass or bow to her or any of that. maybe because he was ancient? maybe he’d break a hip or something. he told them that his wife made the dreamcatchers and then wandered off to leave them to look around. flynn smiled at rapunzel-
sure, babe. hmm….they’re all pretty nice. i like the green ones…but this one has nice feathers…look how big this one is.
-they wandered around under all the catchers, eyes up at all the hanging little webs-
which do you like, love?
She spent a long time looking at them all before pointing to a medium-sized one that had dark green and purple string and brown and white speckled feathers. ”What about that one?” she asked excitedly. Next to it, there was a small one made of shiny silvery string with snow-white feathers. ”And that little one for Pascal!”
